Temporary Event Notices for the Christmas period

16 Nov
2023

If your premises is looking to capitalize on the festive cheer and expand it's offer to customers, and your Premises Licence does not contain a seasonal variation that meets your business needs or alternatively your Premises Licence does not have a variation at all, then you can extend your hours of trading or include an additional licensable activity, by applying for a Temporary Event Notice (TEN).

A TEN in effect, is a temporary extension of your licence which will permit you on a momentary basis, to trade beyond your permitted hours, or licensable activities,  contained on your Licence.  A TEN could be used to extend to later hours or alternatively earlier hours, i.e. if you are hosting a breakfast event.

For a TEN to be a standard TEN, it must be submitted to the Licensing Authority at least 10 clear working days before the event or alternatively, if you are applying for a ‘late’ TEN, it must be submitted 5 clear working days prior to the event.

In respect of the up and coming festive holidays, the last dates to lodge a TEN for Christmas Day or Boxing Day are as follows:

  • Standard TEN – 8th December 2023
  • Late TEN – 15th December 2023.

For New Year’s (1st January 2024):

  • Standard TEN - 13th December 2023.
  • Late TEN – 20th December 2023.

John Gaunt are more than happy to assist your premises in applying for a TEN and in order to do so, we should be grateful if you would please provide us with instructions no later than the 5th December 2023 for Christmas TENs or the 8th December 2023 for New Year’s Eve TENs.
